Houston airports remain closed, cancellations top 5000,George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration had said George Bush Intercontinental Airport would start receiving arrivals at noon Monday but updated its guidance shortly before that deadline to say the airport would remain closed to all but military and relief flights.
United said it was unsure when flights would restart at Intercontinental, but said it would not be today. The airline urged passengers not to try to come to the airport until it a resumption of service had been confirmed.
According to FlightAware, a flight tracking site, IAH canceled 1,123 flights on Monday, and HOU canceled 339. Looking ahead, 550 flights arriving and departing from the two airports have already been canceled for Tuesday.
Several hotels in Texas are also offering lower rates to Harvey evacuees. In San Antonio, La Cantera Resort and Spa offered hurricane victims a special rate of $119. Those rooms have since sold out. The St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio is offering rooms at a discounted rate of $125 a night. Proof of residency must be shown to secure the lower rate.
